Free Online Courses For Obesity Management
Wednesday, March 25, 2015Over the past few months, I have been working with mdBriefCase, a major provider of free online accredited continuing medical education, to produce interactive modules for obesity management.
The modules are aimed at practitioners working in primary care and pharmacists and align closely with the Canadian Obesity Network’s 5As of Obesity Management framework.
The accredited course (Mainpro M1 and MOC Section 1 or 3 credits) is available free of charge to all Canadian Health Professionals.

Thanks for the launch of the new course, Dr. Sharma.
I tried to register for this course, and was disappointed to discover Registered Dietitians were not on the list of “medical professionals”. It seems this designation excluded me from registering for the course. Your post indicates this course is appropriate for allied health practitioners, and I consider registered dietitians among that group. I certainly believe registered dietitians would benefit from additional education in obesity management along with other members of the interdisciplinary team. While major aspects of obesity care encompass management beyond the dietetic role, additional clinical knowledge for our profession remains of benefit as it strengths our referral, advisory, advocacy, and collaborative capacity.

apologies, I would have also assumed that RDs would have access to this. Guess, you’d have to approach mdBriefcase about this.

Hello Dr. Sharma,
Could I take the courses from the US? I’m a board certified Medical Technologist with a California CLS license.
I know the Canadian credit would not count for my license, but I would love to take the continuing education anyway. Thanks for your consideration. Karen P.

Hi Dr. Sharma,
I am a nurse, midwife and lactation consultant in New Zealand. I am trying to develop a support service for pregnant and breastfeeding women who have a obese BMI.
I am currently studying for a research masters in breastfeeding and obesity.
I am trying to find some education on obesity management, will you be making this online course available to New Zealanders? or do you have any alternative suggestions?
Thanks
Rachel
