Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending the official opening of the new expanded Pediatric Centre for Weight and Health (PCWH) here in Edmonton.

The clinic, affiliated with the Stollery Children’s Hospital and is part of Alberta Health Services Weight Wise initiative, recently relocated to the new expanded facilities at the downtown Edmonton General Hospital location from its previous location at the Alberta University Hospital.

The PCWH provides outpatient weight management programs for overweight children (8 – 12 years old) and teens (13 – 17 years old). The programs aim to educate children and their families on healthy eating and active living.

Weight management care is provided through individual counseling or group-based education, and includes long-term support and follow-up. All families complete comprehensive assessments so treatment recommendations are individualized to each family’s needs and abilities. This includes measuring family readiness, motivation, and commitment, factors that are essential for successful behavior change and weight management.

Congratulations to Geoff Ball and his PCWH team for their new and impressive facilities – keep up the great work!

Thanks to all, who made the move and expansion possible.
