This year’s Thanksgiving is a special one for us – it comes on the 10th Anniversary of my immigration to Canada (with now five years in Edmonton!).
Canada has been good to us and I have achieved more in my profession than I could have hoped for.
The Canadian Obesity Network (which I helped found in 2006) has, with over 8,000 members, grown into the largest professional obesity organisation in the world and has, by any measure, changed the way many Canadian professionals now think about obesity – indeed, Canada’s obesity research and practice community is stronger than ever.

Oh how I wish my grandmother had stayed in Canada, where she was born, but instead she immigrated to the U.S….Now I’m trying to find a way to become Canadian…In my heart, I’m already there!
